amberSearch is a generative AI–powered enterprise search platform that enables employees to quickly locate and access internal company knowledge across diverse systems, content formats, and languages. Founded in Aachen, Germany in 2020, it is positioned as Europe’s leading Business AI solution for small and medium-sized enterprises.
amberSearch had a powerful AI platform — but the website didn’t reflect it. The existing site suffered from:
The core problem wasn’t just aesthetics. It was fragmentation – customers experienced one logic inside the product and a different logic on the website. That created confusion, lowered trust, and hurt conversion.
The goal: design a modern yet classic, structured website that delivers a single, unified customer journey across every medium.
I treated the website not as a standalone project, but as one layer of a brand-wide UI system. Every decision – from colors to buttons to spacing – had to work on the website, inside the app, and in print materials for visual consistency.
1. Research-first:
This research revealed that users struggled to understand which product did what. The website needed to add value by clarifying different approaches for different products – not just listing features.
2. Structured composition for clarity:
The old layout was visually flat. I redesigned the information architecture around a clearer, hierarchy-driven structure:
The result: users can scan, understand, and act – without reading paragraphs.
3. A unified UI library (website + app + beyond):
This was the biggest strategic decision. I defined a single design system that spans:
Some components were redesigned from scratch to ensure the same logic applied everywhere. A button on the website behaves and looks like a button in the app. A color means the same thing across mediums.
4. Color system with purpose:
The rebranding established a corporate palette. For the website, I organized it into functional hierarchies:
But the most important layer — Color Hierarchy:
This hierarchy solved a real problem: users now instinctively know what to look at first on any page.
5. Button system: Three sizes, one logic
Buttons follow a consistent three-level system (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary) — each available in Small, Medium, and Large.
Why? Different actions need different visual weight, but the underlying logic stays identical. Users learn the pattern once and recognize it everywhere.
The new website launched with measurable improvements:
Before vs. After:
Business impact:
“Finally, the website feels like the product. Same logic, same trust.”
